A downloadable NES Homebrew

This was my return to slasher games in 2006. It was only a demo on the PC, but now a complete game for the NES! Play as Candyman & eviscerate anyone that dares to say your name 5 times in front of a mirror.

This was originally made in The Games Factory in 2006 by Steve McCall and then ported to play on an NES in 2022 by Steve McCall (programming & misc graphics), Kevin81 (transcribed all sounds & music), and Lilith Brendan (a majority of the graphics).

For more information on the original windows game, visit the official page here.

Alternate download link.

{PC Demo released: June 10, 2006. NES demake released: February 1, 2023.}

-=List of easter eggs and codes=-

  • On the credits screen.. Press the select button 14 times to jump to the Final Bonus Level instantly.
  • On the second level after you kill the girl that tries to step on your mirror, go left to the next room. In that room hold right + select to see a tribute to Dimebag Darrell.
  • During the "Fista Productions" logo at the beginning.. Do the button combination down, up, left, left, A, right, down before it changes to the title screen for a secret surprise (the combination is a reference to the DULLARD code from the Sega Genesis port of Mortal Kombat).

-=Tips=-

  • When the victims are hiding, do not walk in front of them or past them. They will run away causing a "Game Over."
  • Bonus stage JV. Stay as far away as possible. Alternating going up and down the screen shooting hooks.
  • Bonus stage MM. Stay in the middle, alternating going up and down shooting your hooks at the enemy.
  • For Bonus stages JV & MM. If you throw a hook at them when none of their weapons are being thrown on the screen, they will throw a weapon right back at you. This sometimes leads to two weapons being thrown at you because of their patterns. However, if you throw a hook at them when one of their projectiles are still flying in the air, they will not throw a weapon back at you, sticking to their standard pattern.
  • Bonus stage FK. There are two main strategies you can use. 1. Go in a rectangular pattern, staying away from the enemy, all the while shooting hooks at him. 2. A method discovered a month after I released the game: Stand in place, spam hooks, and let him run into you; you'll win in time.

-=Notes=-

If the slasher roms aren't running on your device, download THIS zip file of all 4 games. They're all different mapper versions of the roms.

-=Physical Carts=-

I do not sell my fan games due to copyright issues, but this website overseas does (all 4 individually + the 4in1 cart) along with other people's homebrews. They're working copies that i've used for my giveaways before.

Yo! I stumbled on your series and have got to say they're fantastic! You've delivered the horror games we all wanted as NES kids. Candyman definitely taps into that 8-bit difficulty. I'm stuck on Bonus Stage FK. Crazy to read about the history of these. Great job!

Thank you so much! I made what I wanted to see and I’m just glad other people enjoy them too. There’s an easier way to beat Bonus Stage FK that you can try. Instead of going around in circles and shooting your hooks at him, try standing in place and spamming your hooks. You’ll get hit a couple times, but it works!

No luck with that...yet. I like that you've built in easter eggs in your games too :)

I love your games, and have played them, along with my family, on several occasions! I even streamed your incredible work on my channel, and posted your games in my group, with zero problems! However, Facebook just randomly took it down slating that it's intellectual property. Can Facebook do that? Even though the games are free to download and play? I just need to know before I take any action, because if it's free to download, and it isn't taking away from their platform, I don't see the problem with it. I get it's theirs, but that also hurts the developers that make these games, because if Facebook is taking these down, that's a loss of promotion on you or any other developer's games, because the initial thought would be that the developer decided to take it down, changing minds on downloading your content. I would just like to know if it was you guys or Facebook. Thank you for taking the time to read this! Hope to see more content soon!

Thank you for playing my games! I really appreciate it. That's really odd that Facebook took them down. Maybe it's people who own the rights to the movies? Because my games are free and free to play. I love seeing people stream and post about them. So, it's for sure not on my end. I hope it gets settled for you!

Why aren't most developer's as super nice as you? Thank you so much for responding so quick! Your game Carpet Sharks was my favorite! Tough as nails, Just like Candyman was as you go along! Please keep making NES games till you kick the bucket! :) <3

No problem at all! You're welcome. Oooooh yeah Carpet Shark! I have a sequel i've been planning. You never know if that might show up some time! I'll keep making NES games as long as I find the free time. I can guarantee you that, my friend! 🙌

A shot in the dark here, but our Facebook and Discord (named The Official Rom Hack Database), is based solely on rom hacks, homebrews, fangames, and aftermarket releases on all kinds! We have some of the worlds top modders & developers in there. I would be honored if someone of your calibur joined! You'd get access to our database, which holds enough content to make your eyes do that cartoony drop! I know it was a lot to say, but I really was not expecting you to be cool as you are an awesome game developer.

Awesome! I just sent a request to the FB group. You might have to send me a link for Discord, because I don't think I see it. Can't wait to see all the great content!
